Events Fall

Central Pennsylvania is a premier leaf-peeping destination in the fall, bringing in people from all over to see the displays of foliage. The autumn is also a time of  harvest festivals, celebrations of culture and varied holiday events.

Bellefonte Fall Festival

Time: Middle of October

Location: Talleyrand Park, Bellefonte

Description: The Annual Fall Festival and Halloween Parade is held at Talleyrand Park from 11am to 4pm. Features Vintage Speeder Train Rides, a Halloween Parade, awards and treats. Free activities for children, pumpkin carving, scarecrow-making, ghost stories, music, food, and vendors. Downtown Trick-or-Treating is fun too, with select merchants of downtown Bellefonte participating.

Punkin Chunkin

Time: Late October

Location: Bald Eagle State Park, Howard

Description: Fun atmosphere to enjoy a variety of events, food, shopping and, of course, punkin chunkin. If you've never heard of punkin chunkin, you're missing out on a unique competition in which homemade machines hurl and shoot pumpkins great distances at targets floating in the lake. There are world champion chunkers coming from around the country as well as small chunkers available for kids to fire a pumpkin of their own. To expand the festival's appeal, there are also live bands, food and craft vendors, hayrides, a pie eating contest, fire apparatus display, and activities with the park naturalist.

Dutch Fall Festival

Time: Early October

Location: Downtown Aaronsburg

Description: Aaronsburg’s Dutch Fall Festival one of the most important cultural events in Penns Valley.  The Dutch Fall Festival is a two-day seasonal festival that celebrates the heritage of the Pennsylvania Dutch culture that shaped so much of the history of rural central Pennsylvania.  Now in its 41st year, the Dutch Fall Festival combines delicious home-made traditional foods, local entertainment, and educational and historical demonstrations, set in a celebratory community atmosphere in the heart of historic Aaronsburg village.

Tussey Mountainback

Time: Late October

Location: Tussey Mountain

Description: The Tussey Mountainback is a USATF-certified, 50-mile, single-loop, mostly unpaved course through central Pennsylvania's scenic Rothrock State Forest during peak foliage season. It can be run solo or as a relay with 12 predetermined handoff points. The challenging course takes in Whipple Dam State Park, Alan Seeger Natural Area, Penn Roosevelt State Park, Colyer Lake and Bear Meadows Natural Area and includes a total elevation gain of 5,485 ft.

Nittany Antique Machinery Show

Location: Penn's Cave grounds, Centre Hall

Description: Large flea market, food venders, and of course an extensive display of antique farm machinery.
